THE MOTIVATION & PHILOSOPHY
In September 2015, world leaders committed to 17 Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs (in French: les Objectifs de Développement Durable = ODD). During the ODD summer 2016, teams of students will develop low-cost ways for crowdsourcing sustainable development that even schoolchildren can do, in collaboration with UN organizations.
The ODD Summer is all about team-based problem solving and hands-on prototype development. (More ...)
A sandwich made of two summer schools – hosted by University of Geneva 4-10 July, and Tsinghua University at its Beijing and Shenzhen campuses 14-27 August – filled with a four-week project in a research lab associated with a UN organization.
The Tsinghua Summer School is co-organized by the Lifelong Learning Lab of Tsinghua University, with the support of the LEGO Foundation, the Open FIESTA Center at Tsinghua Graduate School in Shenzhen and the Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab, SZOIL.
NOTE: Successful projects are encouraged to pursue spin-off opportunities after the summer, through a broad education and innovation programme for the SDGs being established jointly by University of Geneva and Tsinghua University.
Travel Grants: Some support is available for strongly motivated applicants with experience in hands-on projects related to sustainable development. Please enquire.
When applying, please state clearly in your Letter of Motivation which parts of the ODD Summer you wish to join: the Geneva Summer School (4-10 July) the Geneva Internship (four weeks in the period 11 July – 13 August) and the Tsinghua Summer School (14 – 27 August).
